First NGOPV Keel Laid at Goa Shipyard Ltd.
On May 3rd, 2024, a momentous occasion unfolded at Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) in Goa, India. The keel laying ceremony for the first Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) marked a significant step forward in the Indian Navy’s commitment to indigenous shipbuilding.

The ceremony was presided over by Vice Admiral B Siva Kumar, Controller Warship Production & Acquisition, and witnessed the presence of dignitaries including Shri B K Upadhyay, Chairman & Managing Director of GSL, and other senior officials from the Indian Navy and GSL.

A Fleet Takes Shape
This event follows the signing of contracts on March 30th, 2023, between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and M/s Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) along with M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata. The agreement outlines the indigenous design and construction of a total of eleven NGOPVs.

As the lead shipyard, GSL will be responsible for building seven of these vessels, while GRSE will construct the remaining four.
